Jana Winderen

Jana Winderen is an artist educated in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College in London, and with a background in mathematics, chemistry and fish ecology from the University in Oslo.

Winderen researches the hidden depths with the latest technology; her work reveals the complexity and strangeness of the unseen world beneath. The audio topography of the oceans and the depth of ice crevasses are brought to the surface. She is concerned with finding and revealing sounds from hidden sources, both inaudible for the human senses and sounds from places and creatures difficult to access.

Recent sounds work include "Interrupting the Surface" (2016) for Galerija Bačva at The Meštrovićev pavilion in Zagreb, “Pasvikdalen” (2015) for the Sonic Acts Festival in Amsterdam, “Dive” (2014), a 64 channel audio installation in Park Avenue Tunnel, commissioned by New York Department of Transportation, "Ultrafield" (2013) commissioned by MoMA, New York, “ultraworld”, a commission by Sound and Music for the listening room at BEOPEN, Trafalgar Square, London (2012). “Between Dry Land”, commissioned for the installation “The Morning Line” (by Matthew Ritchie) for Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary.

She was recently Resident Artist on the vessel Dardanella with the project “Silencing of the reefs” as part of Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary Academy.

Recent releases include the USB stick release, “The Wanderer” (2015) on Ash International (UK), the digital download: “Out of Range” (2014), the 12inch vinyl “Debris” (2012), the CD album “Energy Field” (2010) on Touch (UK).

She is currently working on commissions for the Borealis festival, for the Sonic Acts festival and with a vinyl release for Touch among many other projects and commissions.

In 2011 she won the Golden Nica, for Digital Musics & Sound Art, Ars Electronica, Linz, Austria.

Яна Виндерен — художник, получившая образование в области изобразительных искусств в колледже Голдсмит в Лондоне, а прежде также занимавшаяся математикой, химией и экологией рыб в университете Осло.Виндерен исследует скрытые глубины при помощи новейших технологий. Ее работы выявляют сложность и странность невидимого подводного мира, выводят на поверхность аудиотопографию океанов и глубину ледяных расселин. Она занимается поиском и обнаружением звуков в скрытых источниках, как неслышных для человеческих органов слуха, так и производимых трудноступными местами и существами.
